Looks like North Texas and Oklahoma are going to be running 6 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit above normal thru the next 7 days. You guys can expect 105+ temperatures thru at least next Saturday :sun:

If that happens DFW will also break the record for most consecutive days 105 or higher. Record is 11 and we're currently at 6.

Six days to tie the record of 42 consecutive 100 or higher. 2011 will supplant 1980 as the historical summer by which future summers are compared.

I haven't seen an official record for Austin of consecutive 105 days - it happens so rarely I wouldn't be surprised if our 5 in a row wasn't a record. Only got to 104 yesterday though but that was good enough to tie the all time consecutive 100+ days here in Austin.

We should break that record today.

Both Dallas and Austin have 69 as most 100+ days in a year I suspect we're both going to get very close to breaking that record.

Well, I know we hit triple digits again today (Sunday) at both reporting locations ... 102 @ Mabry and 101 @ ABIA. Will be interesting to see if we get to 105 and break that record.

Well I have been searching for rain but no luck yet finding any :(. GFS basically forecast no rain for Texas thru the next 8 days and the ECMWF control Ensemble run that goes out to 360hrs also forecast no significant rain totals thru Sunday August 21!! In a glimmer of hope the Monthly forecast of the ECMWF starts to print out some rain totals as we head toward the end of the month until the first few days of September.

12zGFS Rain totals ending on Monday morning (Aug 15)

It got to either 102 or 103 at Mabry today (Weather Underground is flaking out - it says the low was 32 today. In our dreams maybe!) and 102 at Bergsrom. Odd cause there is usually more temp separation. Anyway

Austin: Sun Day 54 100+

Day 22 in a row 100+ new record!

DFW streak at 105 or higher has ended at 6. Official high was only 104. 100 or higher lives on at 37. 5 more to tie.

Good one, Shoshana!

I was "fortunate" enough to experience a baseball weather record this weekend. I was on hand for the hottest game time temperature in Texas Rangers history. Saturday night, the Rangers and Indians began with the thermometer reading 106 degrees. And lemme tell ya, it felt like it!

Driving back home to Austin late Saturday night ... my car thermometer which is usually pretty close to accurate read 95 at 11:15 p.m. between Arlington and Fort Worth. Crazy!

^ Not so crazy when it's the norm for over a month especially when you live in the middle of the urban island! Gah! I need a tropical system NOW!

Good ole farmer's almanac always giving that sense of hope! It's about as accurate as me playing five finger fillet. Btw Larry Cosgrove thinks we (Texas) have one more blast of heat left in the ridge. Sigh...

Austin: Mon Day 55 100+ (14 days to tie 1925's record of 69)

Day 23 in a row 100+ new record!

Mabry just hit 100. Record is 110, I think it's safe.

Eww!

Driving home from Dallas Sunday morning (I drove up Sat night to pick up our pup) my car was reading 99F at 9 am going thru downtown Dallas.

I realized how used to dry yellow grass I was when I was startled by my sister & brother in law's green lawn.

Day 11 105+

Day 1 in a row 105+

106 at Mabry and 103 Bergstrom (not record)

No Relief Coming

We have been talking nearly non-stop about the number of days and the number of consecutive days of highs reaching 100 or more. Here's one more, as if you needed another one. Austin-Mabry has a high of 105 or higher every day this month. If today's high climbs to 105+ it will be the sixth day in a row, tying with August 31 to September 5, 2000. In that six-day period there was one high of 110 and another of 112. The record is 9 days in a row from August 12th to 20th, 1923.

Kinda confused cause I keep reading that 110 is all time high temp here in Austin but after reading this I think I do remember 112... gah. Took me forever to even find this!

I think 110 is all time AUGUST high. I could be mistaken!

Good news: It will be cooler here than Death Valley! (117F there)
Bad news: It's hotter than Death Valley right now (69F there)

Heat records to be broken all week
Heat wave likely to continue all month

Updated: Tuesday, 09 Aug 2011, 9:10 AM CDT
Published : Tuesday, 09 Aug 2011, 8:57 AM CDT

Jim Spencer

AUSTIN (KXAN) - A new record for consecutive 100 degree days is expected to be established every day this week.

Tuesday will become a record-breaking 24th day in a row with temperatures of 100 degrees or hotter in Austin, and the streak is forecast to continue for at least the next seven days -- or likely longer.

In addition, the record high temperature of 106 degrees will be threatened Tuesday afternoon, as will the 105 degree records on Wednesday and Thursday.

Since June 30, only two days have been below 100 degrees, and the highs on those days were 99 degrees. That makes the past five weeks the hottest in Austin's history.

Without the influence of a tropical cyclone, this remarkable heat wave may continue until the lower sun angle in early September begins to allow a southern dip in the jet stream, which could dislodge the dome of high pressure situated over Texas.

The eight- to 14-day outlook offers little hope for relief, with a forecast of above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall for all of Texas.

It is becoming more likely that Austin’s all-time 100-degree day record will be broken this month. Only 15 more days of triple-digit heat will make a total of 70 for the summer -- exceeding the 1925 record of 69 days.

Without an unforeseen change in our weather pattern, this record could be broken as early as Aug. 23.

Lovely, but not unexpected.

Texas hits record 249 county burn bans
Only five counties remain without ban

Updated: Tuesday, 09 Aug 2011, 8:26 AM CDT
Published : Tuesday, 09 Aug 2011, 7:47 AM CDT

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - The Texas Forest Service said a record 249 counties have outdoor burn bans as the heat wave and drought continue.

The agency reported Tuesday that the only counties without the burn bans are Willacy and Zapata in far South Texas, and Chambers, Jefferson and Orange in Southeast Texas.

The state's previous outdoor burn ban record, prior to this year's drought, was set in January 2006 with 221 counties imposing the limits.

The Texas Forest Service said that mark was passed in June.

Plus the Heat Advisory is in effect again from noon today till Thursday night. If we're going to have rolling blackouts, looks like it might be in the next two weeks. When school starts up that will put more stress on the grid too.

Below normal temps Aug-Sep and above normal precipitation for TX/OK. Yeah, that looks pretty accurate. Free forecast - you get what you pay for.
