Hi,

I'm new here. I found this forum searching on Google about the Tuesday Outbreak, and since I read some good topics here.

I'm doing a little research on tornadoes for a school project, and I would like to know if it is possible to find somewhere past statistics about tornadoes in the USA ... something like this :

1997 :
  • Number of tornadoes
  • Number of F0, F1, F2, F3, F4 and F5 tornadoes
  • Number of tornado-related deaths
  • Dates of the tornadoes
  • General data about this year, like the general temperature (cool, hot, cold etc.) and weather (dry or not)

I'm a passionated of tornadoes since I'm 4 years old, so I know much about tornadoes, but I don't know where to find such specific data about past tornadoes.
I know that it is probably impossible to have all these data, but is there somewhere I can find some of these ?

Thanks,

Sam

PS : sorry if my english is poor, I'm a french canadian :)

Maybe google or try the search function at NOAA (spc). You should find something if available.
You could also try to contact the NOAA pro mets directly.

I found this website : http://www.disastercenter.com/tornado/tornad2.htm

This is pretty good, not much detailed, but the essential is there. Is just wondered if you know where I can find these stats for the 1997-2005 period, cause the stats aren't up-to-date :(

Welcome Canadian to the boards! I love tornadoes a ton as well, all my life too.

You can find most of what you are looking for out there. Some of the more advanced infromation like F0, F1, etc, through the years may be much harder though. It's getting better though every year.

Crostrom --> I can't find where to find all the tornadoes ; I click on "all the tornadoes" but theres nothing (?)

Cyclenall --> I knew that it would be hard to find these specific data for all the years, but I thought it was possible to find that for the last 5 years, or something like that. I searched over the NWS website, but didn't find it ...

Thanks,

Sam

Sam,

I'd suggest getting the SeverePlot software. It's 100% free from the Storm Prediction Center.

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/software/svrplot2/

It's a bit tricky to work with sometimes, so if you need help working things out, feel free to contact me via PM or reply to this thread.

Best of luck on your project!
