I took this photo of my backyard when leaving work 6 am this morning.



Just under an inch now, but I wonder how much we'll get? In the 15 minutes since the photo was taken, it's coming down harder.

Still waiting for spring.

Woah snow in June. How common is that sort of thing over there?

When does it get warm there though?

That picture is of Teton Pass, elevation 8431 ft. The valley floor (Jackson Hole) is about 6200-6800ft. It's unseasonal, but not rare, to have a snow storm. When I lived there, my family came to visit once over July 4 holiday. We went to Yellowstone, even higher. It snowed. The roads were not slick, but snow was on the ground and stuck to all the trees, everything was white. I was told Teton Pass had 12 inches of wet snow that day. After the weather cleared, back in Jackson, we went to sit outside and watch the fireworks that night. The temperature was in the upper 20's. I had to loan all my family warm coats! Old-timers used to brag that it could snow any month of the year, and had. To be fair, though, it can get quite warm in the daytime (if the sun is shining) and then drop 50 degrees after dark, due to the elevation.

Ok well being a good 8000 feet up is more what I'd expect. I remember once snow falling close to sea level here in the UK during June, happened during a cricket match as well.

Very nice photos, to be honest given recent winters in the UK I'd take snowfall like that even in the heart of winter!

When does it get warm there though?

It was 81 yesterday, very summer like. Having highs in the 80's and snow on the ground the next morning is fairly common in May or June.

My comment on waiting for spring is that it goes winter-summer-winter-summer and seems to skip over spring sometimes.

I'd really love to see that sort of climate though it must be a real pain for all the wildlife!

The wildlife does seem to thrive here. I’ve never seen more wildlife other than in the tropical rainforest and the African Savannas. We see deer, elk and squirrels on a daily basis, and sometimes bear, porcupine, marmots, etc.

what sort of snow depths do you get in the winter time?

Last winter we had three feet for months, but it’s usually less than that. We usually have at least some snow on the ground from late October or November to April, sometimes a foot or two.

Yes, 50-60 mph.

Amazing a foot or two of snow on the ground, got to be honest I'm not sure I could imagine that, sure I've seen 6-8 inches of snow but nothing more, sadly I was born after the impressive 80's we had over here...wish I could have been alive to see Jan 87 over here, 12-18 inches widespread over the east coasts.

The snow melted yesterday evening, but this morning was 19F here. Anyway, someone forgot to postpone the irrigation water to come on later in the day. I don't know why, but I liked the photo with all the icicles and ice.

Woah thats a very good photo there, impressive low temps as well for June though the air is quite dry out there I guess. Its funny you can see the extent of the water spraying out by where the ground has been iced up!

Officially 87F today. Pretty warm considering we had 29F in the morning.
