Not sure if anyone knows that New Hampshiere was hit by an EF2 tornado on the 24th of this month. The tornado caused a damage path of about 40 miles long and at points a quarter mile wide. The link below is from an aerial photography that was taken this pass weekend. It shows an 18 mile long stretch of damage to the woods up there. One person was killed from this tornado.

First deadly NH tornado since 1946.

First deadly New England tornado since 1995.

With the recent NH death, 120 people have been killed by tornadoes in the US during 2008.

Also, the day before, a tornado struck Rhode Island.

I had heard about NH - I didn't know it was an EF2! I didn't know about RI amd MA either.

We had some NASTY storms rock through the Mid Atlantic and Northeast this past weekend. As a matter of fact, being the thunderstorm geek I am, on Sunday at about 2:30, the storms were just starting to come into Southern New Jersey. The Phillies game had just been called and the clouds were wicked looking. The wind was picking up and thunder was in the distance. I decided to go out on my patio and have a cigarette just to watch it approach. I noticed that the clouds were rolling and I SWEAR that right above me, the clouds rotated and then started to swirl back and forth. I ran back in to see if in addition to the severe thunderstorm warning they had added a tornado warning as well. That was the first time I ever really noticed that happening with the clouds. I've seen some awesome wall clouds that looked like something was going to drop out of them, but never a rotation.
