SOUTHEAST TEXAS FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
945 AM CDT WED AUG 20 2003

ON SCHEDULE...SHOWERS ARE BEGINNING TO DEVELOP ALONG THE COAST.
EXPECT THE SEABREEZE TO BECOME ACTIVE LATER THIS MORNING AND THIS
AFTERNOON. CURRENT FORECAST PACKAGE HAS THIS COVERED. NO ZONE UPDATE
WILL BE NEEDED AT THIS TIME.

Could someone please explain these little sporadic sprinkly things that are spitting droplets and hardly much more?

It bugs me cuz I can't watch on radar and see what's going on. They're not there one minute...the next minute - rain.

How do seabreeze showers form?

Thanks!

Hey GalvestonDuck, how are ya? I always wondered what sea-breeze thunderstorms were, especially since they are in our daily forecast throughout most of the summer. Here's some information for you. I hope this helps!

SEA BREEZE FRONT
A coastal phenomena, it is restricted to large bodies of water and their immediate coast lines. This is usually the landward extent of the sea breeze. Due to the imbalance of heating between land and water, a region of maximum upward motion or convergence occurs by mid-afternoon in the summer some 10 to 15 miles inland. Air mass thunderstorms or a line of towering cumulus clouds with showers can form along the front. At the beach, there are blue skies and a light breeze. This often occurs along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and Florida's east coast.
