While answering a post from Somethingfunny about a potentially hot, dry summer coming up for us here in Texas, I was reminded of a statement from the late great Harold Taft:

He used to say something to the effect of: "The next drought in Texas begins as soon as the last flood has ended."

That spurred me to Google his name and I found this interesting biography on Wiki.

Wow, it's hard to believe it's been almost 20 years since he was last on KXAS. I remember it like it was yesterday "....and today we begin with a beautiful shot of downtown Fort Worth from photographer Jimmy Darnell...."

He was one of the old school, all-time greats who paid attention to the "little things". For example, when they still used corded remotes, he made a big deal out of running the cord up the coat sleeve, around the waist, and out the back so that the cord would not be seen on-camera. He paid attention to the big things too -- like, say, every Met working for him had to have a degree in Meteorology.

He created a model TV Weather department and he, along with Roy Leep from WTVT in Tampa, deserve a lot of credit for making modern TV weathercasts what they are today (or shall we say, what many of them were back in the 1990's before everything became about gimmicks and good looks rather than communicating the weather.)

Anyway, glad to see there are still some who know & appreciate all the great things Harold did.
