The weather has dried out considerably in August....only 1.60" so far at my location, and temperatures have responded...

After almost reaching the 90° mark here Saturday (89.4°), it finally happened yesterday....reaching 90.1°, the first time 90° has occurred this summer. It is by far the latest in the season for the first 90° reading in my memory (and I've owned a thermometer since 1974). Before 2003, I'd never made it past July 8th without reaching 90° at least once.

With high pressure building in and surface soils drying, I expect even hotter temps the next several days in this area of metro Atlanta...in the 91-93° range.

Hey JetMaxx,

Certainly has been a strange summer for GA! Any thoughts on what that may mean for fall and winter? I would think we could get an early start to fall, with colder than normal readings through early winter. Any ideas?

That is sooooo bizarre for you guys! Heck, this is typically when summer starts winding down for folks up in the northern tier. You're just getting started!! :D

Temperatures in Lower South Carolina have been very .... well normal ... anywhere between 88º-92º and not much of a deviation plus or minus 2º from normal each day but rainfall has been more ... well normal, in relation to the scattered nature involved ...

This is the output from prelim F6 Climatological Data for the Month of August...notice that rainfall at CHS ...

What's amazing is that just inland from CHS (and my location), rainfalls once again have been ABOVE normal ... and the August 24th, 2003 storm produced the first hailstones reported since 2001.

CHS prelim data

My climatic summary ... notice 7.72" as of August 24th, 2003 and 7.89" as of August 25th (as another .17" fell today - August 25th, 2003)

GEEZ!!!! You're just getting your first 90º of the year??? I'd just like a low somewhere below the upper 90's for once!!!!(which isn't predicted till who knows when unless we get some tropical system in here-shhh David they'll hear you and send one!!  ) In fact we could use some more rain. Anyone got some to spare? We're about 10" down for the year.
