New La Nina

I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the newest La Nina and if its affects will be as drastic as what we've been through during this most current event. I'm specifically interested in Texas and the prolonging affects of the drought.

I am certainly no expert on this, but everything I am reading says we will probably be as dry as or dryer than we were this past Winter. Unfortunately drought begets drought and with the ground so dry and current predictions for below normal rainfall for the next three months I don't hold out much hope for anything more than a few showers here and there with normal to slightly above normal temps for the next three months. If we are lucky we may get some good cold shots out of this Winter but unless the Southern jet sets up over our area as opposed to N of us, which seems likely, I don't see a lot of moisture being transported our way.

Oddly enough, My area of Florida - Tampa Bay - has experienced wetter than normal for the past two years despite the extreme cold winters. The fronts coming through have brought a lot of rain, and the summer rainy seasons, albeit sketchy, did just dump on us when it had the chance. Total rainfall for my locale (local PWS 5 mi away) has 55" year to date. I can also tell you 22" of it fell in 4 events (one to two day deluges). I just hope the prediction of more winter cold does not come true. I can handle the chill, but the consistent AO cold was horrible.

The Texas Forest Service did a recent seminar and participants were told that Texas is in year 17 of a 30 year drought cycle. If this holds true, there will be nothing left of Texas 13 years from now. We need to start building a pipeline for water from the Mississippi now!

And MASSIVE DESALINATION PLANTS all along the coast.
