Very nice and ominous at the same time. Those lightning photos were taken in August 2003. I took even more last night as well, which ae not on the site yet. Wild weather these days in Maryland. Fortunately it's quiet today until later tonite when a few storms could develop. Then some strong storms are possible Friday evening.

Jim - those lightning pictures were incredible! If I could take pictures like that, I would seriously consider becoming a professional photographer. Keep up the great work bud, and I am looking forward to your next set of weather pics.

Way cool shots there Jim!
I particularly like the 5/31/03 outflow ones. Whew, can you say, "instability" ?!

WOW!!

Those are fantastic! Exactly what I would love to capture, but can't due to a lack of NO severe weather! We haven't even been getting any rain!

Those photos from 5-31-03 were wild. It was a day of both dynamics and instability combined. Quite a strong frontal passage as well.
The lightning photos were taken looking towards the bay, yes!! One thing I've noticed was a substantial increase in lightning activity as the storms entered the Chesapeake Bay. That occurred Friday night and the same can be said last night as well, more lightning to my south. I'll put last nights photos on that site a bit later.
In the meantime, keep an eye out in the midwest later today into tonight for wind damage potential. Wind damage is the primary severe threat from eastern Kansas into east central iowa and extending northeastward into Wisconsin and the Upper Pennisula of Michigan as well. Chicago could see overnight severe storms with 60-70 mph winds later tonight.
That same system is headed east into the Ohio Valley and northeast tomorrow with more severe weather. The front is then expected to stall over the mid atlantic this weekend with impulse after impulse riding along the boundary. Hydrologic problems may result over the labor day weekend for the middle atlantic and parts of the Ohio Valley as well in the form of flooding rainfall. Isolated wet microbursts can not be ruled out either, just like what we saw on June 13th, 2003 with that flooding in northeast baltimore City and the wet microburst with that shelf cloud just to my west.
