Snow falling UP

Weird sight today. The kids and I climbed Mount Antero in Colorado and it began to snow. Since we were on a north south ridge with a drop off to the west the snow was "falling upwards". Not at an angle, but straight upwards caused by the updrafts buffeting the mountain. It wasn't that windy, but since the snow was light and fluffy, it was "falling" completely vertically and upwards. It wasn't blowing wildly up, but looked just like it was falling up, in the same manner that it falls down. We felt upside down!

Same here. During LES events and windy winter weather, snow can blow in any direction and mini-zones of wind can look erratic but not going strictly upwards.

Me too. :grr: Unfortunately the camera was dead by the time the storm hit. :grr:

The last photos I got were of the approaching storm, but the camera died before the storm hit (the bulk of it missed us though so it wasn't as threatening as it appears in the photo).

Here is the approaching storm before it hit:

We were on the ridge center right when it began to snow, but the camera died (low battery) just after the above photo was taken.

For snow to "fall" upward, I think you would have to be on top of a feature with a big void below (i.e. on top of a cliff, slope, or ridge). The cliff or ridge would have to be aligned almost perfectly perpendicular to the wind direction.

I've seen snown blown up from below before, but not "softly" to look like it was falling natural upwards as it would falling downwards without a wind.

I want some of what was in your water bottles!!LOL!!! That is just plain way past weird. I probably would have worried myself that I had lost it if I saw something like that.
