http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/md/md2321.html for the info. Anywhere from Philadelphia southwestward to Wilmington, De, Baltimore, MD, Washignton DC, and La Plata, MD are in this threat for severe weather today. A cold front moving in from the northwest is encounters very warm, humid, and unstable air. Thus showers and thunderstorms will become widespread this afternoon into this evening and many of the storms will be slow moving. As a result not only will there be damaging winds in the form of wet microbursts possible, but very very heavy rainfall. Rainfall rates of 2-3 inches epr hour with isolated amounts of over 4 inches per hour are possible in these areas. Thus a slight risk of severe thunderstorms and the potential for flash flooding. No flood watches has been issued for the middle atlantic east of the Blue ridge. However take my word for it, flooding rains could become an increasing threat later today. In addition to that, excessive cloud to ground lightning strikes are lightning in this situation. Electrical storms are certainly a good possibility later today..

More on this later.

Yes...looks like isolated severe storms are possible...no widespread event at all, barely scattered event...but isolated severe storms are possible.

I have a pretty potent rain band moving in as I speak...
