SEVERE TSTM WATCH #912
Posted: Sat Aug 30, 2003 1:08 pm
The storm prediction center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch #912 effective this Saturday afternoon and evening from 2 PM until 7 PM EDT.
The watch effects portions of the District of Columbia, eastern Maryland, southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware, southern New Jersey, parts of Virginia, and adjacent coastal waters.
Hail to 1 inch in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph and dangrous and frequent lightning are possible in these areas. A severe thunderstorm watch means that conditions are favorable for strong to severe thunderstorms in and near the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. In addition to wet microburst being the primary severe weather threat, there is also concern for very heavy rainfall. Rain rates of 2-4 inches per hour are likely this afternoon within this severe thunderstorm watch area. That could cause flash flooding in some areas. Stay tuned.
