Well, I'm just glad people are starting to realize that accurate weather forecasting means much more than saying 70 with a chance of thunderstorms.

sounds sort of like they are trying to advocate for using private weather companies rather than the NWS>

Unfortunately, we the people who benefit from NOAA products don't have lobbyists.

Private companies testifying about leadership in weather? Most likely anti-NWS! When was the last time they launched a satellite? Or put up a nationwide radar system? How about AWOS/ASOS? Balloon launches? Without those, where would these private companies stand?
Kind of hard to forecast without those government run models (or for the groups with their own models, without the govt wx stations that feed in data for those models), those govt planes that fly into hurricanes, buoys, etc.

I'm surprised WSI inc. wasn't there. They are the largest private weather company in the world afterall.

Yeah, I agree. I think it was accuweather talking about how wonderful they were having warned about a tornado. (no doubt, anyone warning an area re a tornado, it is fantastic) Then I guessed what this was about.
