I hope we don't get as many late freezes this year. Hardly had any blue bonnets in NTX this past Spring.

If the warm pool in the gulf of Alaska remains (it popped up last spring and most long term guidance says it will) then we would likely see a similar pattern as last year. Warm springs are tied to La Nina which is not in place or coming so a spring like 2011 or 2012 is unlikely.

I'm curious as to what this spring severe weather season will be like. The past few years (at least since I've been in Texas), It seems that severe weather is shunted off to the southern states (MS, AL, TN). My parents house in Tuscaloosa has had damage from a tornado twice in the past 3.5 years with the NWS coming out and doing surveys.

In my not-so-professional opinion, I think that the drought had a lot to do with the stunting of the tornado season. Also, the cap always seems to be really strong here versus what I was used to in Bama.

Any thoughts on this? I'm hoping for a wet spring in general. Since our wettest months are coming up, I hope they provide good. I'm also secretly hoping for a summer like 2007. I didnt live here at the time but from what I understand it was really wet. I prefer a good ole fashioned "Southeast Summer", high humidity and rain every day

After this brutal winter for many I am sure many folks will like this to arrive.

I'm also hoping for a Summer like 2007. That is the last time our Central Texas lakes were full AND overflowing. A 4th of July party on Lake Travis was cancelled because the water inundated our camp site. Now, it seems like a drop of rain is hard to come by, and Lake Travis is 38% full.

Ah yes that magical summer of 2007 where Austin turned into a tropical rainforest and it rained every day like clockwork.

It was the result of a low pressure system that got sandwiched between two highs and became suspended. It was cool watching the satellite radar each day seeing the blow up of showers and storms and the slow swirl of the system as it just meandered over the state for weeks. That would be so cool if that became a natural climate cycle for Central Texas. One can only dream.

Iirc it was a strong MCS diving south out of OK which split a high pressure cell and created the lower pressure in between. We benefitted from it as well here NTX.

Bring on Spring 2014!!!!! However I do believe we still have additional cold weather before Spring really kicks in.

June 2007 featured that one crazy event where Marble Falls received 18 inches of rain in just hours. Yeah, I remember that one. Here is how Dr. Steve Lyons of The Weather Channel described the synoptics for that event:

This very large and damaging rain event in Texas was the result of the merger of an upper level trough, a surface frontal boundary and the strong tropical moisture surge that originated in the Caribbean Sea, moved into the Gulf of Mexico, moved across the Texas and Louisiana coasts and continued inland into central and north Texas.

Could do without any damaging floods but sure would love to see some stalled frontal boundaries and Gulf moisture this spring and summer!

I remember it happened in early June, right? The local weather guys mentioned the MCS in OK and showing it coming south. Then it got stuck in Central Texas. Except for the flooding, it was nice.

Good to see that we're giving up on the winter thread. I like spring. Trees should begin to leaf out soon. Grass will start growing again. No more winter weather threats. Hopefully, you all get some well-needed rainfall this spring, particularly in central Texas. I'm still thinking that this spring will be slightly cooler than normal but I'm not sure about the precip. My earlier thoughts were wetter than normal, but I'm not so confident about that now. Same for summer (slightly cooler/wetter).

Not a very encouraging outlook in the rain department for this area according to Bob Rose's latest video blog.

I'm looking forward to this thread, and the large amounts of rain that should come with it. It would be nice if Spring would stick around all Summer. Then jump into Fall.

Oh my goodness where is Spring????? 3 days ago forecast high in DFW was to be 74 and Saturday 67. Now it's 64 for tomorrow and 57 for Saturday. And more freezing temps after the 15th??

I don't know, but it needs to hurry. I'm ready to see green instead of gray. I hope the El Nino talk pans out.
