Rains Relieve California Drought

#1 Postby Sanibel » Tue Dec 02, 2014 6:06 pm

The extended drought in California got a break with widespread rains off a Pacific Low. 1-5 inches are expected.

Another Pacific Low will wheel in another drought quenching rain spell for California. This one will be more oriented towards northern California.

Even with the expected NoCal bias if we get the forecast rainfall in SoCal we'll be substantially ahead of normal rainfall for the first time in years. FWIW the rains have been warmer than usual which is an El Nino-ish phenomenom - but not good for drought relief, because it melts the snow, and our storage for water per se is somewhat limited. Not a problem at all right now, because our reservoirs are so low, but if the whole season is like this it'll be less beneficial than the raw rainfall numbers might indicate.

They say the worst storm in 6 years. 3-6 inches in a main heavy band off a Pineapple Express. Winds gusting in 30's San Francisco - 60's Tahoe. Central to southern also affected.

18 inches snow expected high Sierras.

California definitely needed every drop they can get to bust this drought...though we're kinda hoping not all at once.

California is still way below normal on rainfall with some places needing upwards of 30-35 inches in the next 3 months of the rainy season to catch up. Let us hope they can get some more Pacific storms to add to the rain totals but with none of the violent weather that they saw with this last system.

Looks like another Pacific Low is lined up for another rain front.

3 feet of snow in the Sierras from this one.

Mt Lincoln saw 140mph winds.

January only saw 1/10th of an inch of rain in San Francisco however another Pacific Low Pineapple Express will send drenching rain over California again Saturday.
