Well it is cold out. Too bad a fresh layer of snow did not accompany this air. I am calling it now, Thanksgiving will be a snowy one to kick start a long winter of cold and snow for 2019-2020. Spring like temps later this week with mid 70's Friday before a minor cool down.

Ill take it, this season was the weakest nino ever. Should look up official stats before i throw out stats, but Nino summers arent bad generally.

Also, some light returns are popping up in SE Texas.

ANother morning at 23 degrees. That is tied for the lowest of the season which I have hit 5 or so times this winter. Tonight should finally break down the 23 degree wall at my place. I expect upper teens tomorrow morning, but that will feel balmy vs the biting wind chills this morning.

I haven't seen anything at my office near Hobby. Did you see actual snowflakes or perhaps tiny snow grains with an indistinguishable shape? HRRR sounding indicates a sub-freezing layer between about 500ft and 3000ft where the precip is forming. Definitely feels like the coldest air of the winter. I think I'll skip biking today. We may not even see a high above 40!

P.S. Note that my entire observation took less than 30 seconds before I ran back inside to warm up. Can't see outside from my desk.

Although not 100% certain on the distinction, I would tend to describe what i saw as snow grains, rather than snow flakes.

Also, wxman57, that means the HRRR confirms the sounding over Houston can produce snow, correct?

I'm not sure what kind of snowflake could form in the lower 2000 ft where the temperature is sub-freezing. In the sounding below, there's a cloud deck in above-freezing air 8000-9000 ft up. Too thin for precip, probably. However, there's a saturated area between a few hundred feet up and maybe 3000 ft up where the precip would be forming in sub-freezing air. This could form snow grains, which differ from snow pellets (partly melted snowflakes). Snow grains can form in shallow stratus clouds, as we have here in Houston. They're typically small and somewhat flat, lacking the detailed structure of a typical snowflake.

Well, once again, Houston gets the snow and the D-FW area gets nothing!

No record low but FWD has updated the forecast and now has a high of 31F at DFW. That would be a record low high. Also, the 1st sub freezing high at DFW this winter season?

It would be the first. Only 4 days with highs officially in the 30's I believe. Not many. I wonder what the reocrd low is for tomorrow? If skies clear overnight with calm winds, teens could be area wide in the morning.

NWS FTW *UPDATE*

These clouds should begin to break mid to late afternoon
for most of the region, but too late for good insolation. As a
result did bump high temps down a bit as cold advection will
continue through the day and mitigate the normal daytime heating
effects. The record lows held at both DFW and Waco this morning,
but record low maximum temperatures of 35 and 38, respectively,
look in danger.
