With 100 mph wind gusts possible in the squall, there could be an outside chance of a 60 hatched wind risk, which would trigger an upgrade to high risk. Very (very) small chance of course.

The official record for fastest moving tornado is 73mph. There's a very good chance we break that today and we may have already done that with the tornado in NE.

That record has been broken with the Pilger, Nebraska Tornado in 2014, with a speed of 90.4 mph

I don't think that's official though

The 73 Mph record was from a EF-5 Tornado & it's the fastest EF-5 (Hackleburg-Phil Campbell, AL Tornado in 2011 was close with 70 mph) in the EF-5 strength, but the Pilger, NE Tornado was an EF-4 & precisely synced videos (Including Pecos Hank) showed it was moving at an extremely fast speed. (Skip Talbot had concrete evidence of it moving at least 90 mph)

Oh I'm not doubting there's been faster than 73. I just think the 73 is the "official" record.

Anyway back to today. Anyone who is under a severe thunderstorm warning needs to treat it like a tornado warning and take shelter immediately. These straight line winds are going to be just as strong as a weak tornado.

Interesting

Looks like this could be a sneaky event. 2% tor risk for now but that might increase if the HRRR is to be believed. Nice supercell there in the middle.

I've got finals in the morning and I'm driving home in the afternoon so I may not get to track this one much. Hopefully I don't have to drive through anything crazy. Looks like the main action should be to the south but we'll see.

I missed this tweet from yesterday but the long track tornado in TN was also rated EF4. So that's two from this event now.

SPC seems pretty confident that severe weather chances will increase next week, especially along the gulf coast. 2021 could go out with a bang.

I recall them mentioning Day 9 earlier this week. I don't think they do that too often.

Broad slight risk up for Day 2, with SPC mentioning an enhanced risk upgrade is possible. Nothing crazy on the CAMs so far but they generally always uptrend (unfortunately) as we get closer to the event. This is going to be a dangerous event, and I would not be surprised to see some strong tornadoes.
