Texas Summer 2021

#1 Postby Texas Snowman » Mon May 31, 2021 3:11 pm

Ok, everyone, June 1st is tomorrow, and with it comes the start of meteorological summer.

So we’ll go ahead and start the Texas summer forum, always the favorite thread of our beloved Wxman57.

Hopefully a cooler and wetter summer than normal. And then a cool and beautiful fall!!!

The worst time for Texas, but it seems like that this summer is going to be closer to Spring.

When May is inactive on Supercells for most of Texas & Oklahoma, something is not right . . .

I would make the argument that western portions of Texas (primarily west of I-35)have had a decent amount of supercells over the last several weeks.

I was more focused for Eastern Texas & Most of Oklahoma (The panhandle got a good amount of tornadoes lately).

Since June 1st is also the start of hurricane season, let’s do a forecast for the Texas Gulf Coast.

My prediction:

2 tropical storms
1 hurricane
1 major hurricane

Well, here we are in meteorological summer. Sure is looking wet for the next 10 days or so. We will see how long this pattern persists, but it appears likely that summer will at least feature average precipitation and temperatures. I will not be surprised to see above average precipitation either. However, even wetter summers can still feature dry spells in between rainy periods.

No help from the EPAC due to cooler temps (active EPAC typically suppresses Western Gulf activity) but the current pattern holds though the summer leaving a weakness over the Central and Western Gulf. Overall, it will be hard for stronger systems to get very far west into the Gulf.

1 Tropical Storm - Central Texas Coast
1 Hurricane - Landfall east of Houston

Overall, another active Gulf season but mostly into the Central Gulf Coast.

75 at noon on June 2. Amazing. Only downside is it’s not hot enough for neighborhood pool.
