Just checked the radar out of NWS JAX, quite a pretty impressive squall line on the march (looks to be intensifiying somewhat) across FL. :o
Looks like the west coast of FL is getting dumped on with some heavy rain. MMMMMM could be an interesting day down here.

No rain here Amanzi in St Petersburg/Tampa area but it's on the way. Local weather said some potential for sever thunderstorms later!

Can we say...rain delay Daytona?

stay safe MF. Looks like we on this side will get in on the rain action this afternoon. Melbourne NWS says there main concern is the risk of lightning at the Daytona 500 later this afternoon. Looks like the race-fans may be in for a little let down There is a possibility for severe Tstorms here later in the afternoon\evening here as well. They normally loose intensity by the time they have travelled accross the peninsular though.

There was a substantial increase in lightning strikes over the Gulf of Mexico northward to extreme eastern Tennessee last night into early this morning... then it weaken, however an increase in activity occured overnight into this morning in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

This afternoon the area of thunderstorms approaching the Florida peninsula weakened considerable, considering what it was. Heard some thunder and had some rain in the last couple hours.

The original forecast was to have the showers, rain and thunderstorms to start just after the race was over... or right at the tail end. The precipitation basically moved in faster. However, the front if anything will slow down further than it has been moving in the last 12 to 36 hours.

Typical loss of thunderstorm intensity as the primary low transfers energy to the secondary low now developing off the Carolina Coast.
