Great storms coming thru right now. Counties to our west has tornado warnings and such. I believe raleigh is in a severe t-storm warning. We have straight line winds that are very strong and are basically drive the rains sideways.

Be careful JQ....the most intense line is north of the city....you'll get the winds and possible damage with this squall line.....watch the skies and radars!

Temperatures regime in Downeast NC's neck of the woods are in the UPPER 70'S... Can we say intensification likely?

I just talked with him over on TWC, and it's looking pretty rough for his area ... I don't think the marine influence will help knock these down like they do in a normal situation.

Oh yeah...I'm watching those areas closely. I know you guys have more tools and options to work with being in the middle of it, but be safe and watch the reports and radars....this is still hours from over and the rest of the line has to push off the coast. I'll keep an eye on all the action up this way and hope those guys come out of these events ok as well.

It is all over here, except for the mud.. Not much activity in South Raleigh. It seemed to go around the beltline and I'm right inside the bottom of it. :x , more up north, did hear some thunder tho, which means we'll have snow within 10 days - heheheheheheheh

lol oh no! Well its good you escaped the meat of those storms...they are heading up into VA now and off the coast thankfully.

That's good that it turned out not so bad there, HeartofNC.

Same here ... interesting enough, an NWS off-duty employee reported trees down in West Ashley, Charleston...near where I work at 330 pm EST today.

Quite a lot of rain fell in Raleigh around 1:45 PM! I was driving on the Outer Loop at the time and it was quite fun...almost no visibility. Also heard thunder and saw some lightening.

Several folks I ran into today insisted that the thunder was a sure sign that we will have winter weather (snow, ice and/or sleet) in about 12 days. I'm a bit skeptical since it is so late in the season. Another rain event, maybe...but snow?

Any thoughts on this??

Its an old lore. I think its Thunder in Winter, snow in 30 days. Not all that sure. Same applies to a ring around the moon.

HPC is progging another winter storm for the Mid-Atlantic around day 5.
I'm not so sure ... the models are waffling badly right now and can't really make a good summation of the situation.

Very strong pressure gradient with that low which was around 983 mb - I had a peak gust of 54 mph ... which fell a couple of trees this morning around the area ...
