Heavy Rain Tuesday night-Wednesday night

Looks like more heavy rain and thunderstorms are on the way for tomorrow night through Wednesday night ... with showers continuing through Thursday night. As you all know, the East has dealt with tremendous amounts of rain this summer and autumn, and we really don't need anymore.

1-2" is possible...with localized higher amounts in storms.

Kinda late in the year for that far north IMHO ... when will you get accumulating snow? :o

Yup, looks like 1 to 2 inches of rain will fall tomorrow and tomorrow night in the northern mid-Atlantic - with of course a chance of thunderstorms. And then the showers will likely continue through at least Friday. My swamp (aka lawn) is never going to dry out!

At least one or two accumulating snowfalls occur in the driest and/or warmest winters in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Quite a bit of rain...Here's a stat for you all

55.37" of rain and melted snow fell at bwi airport this year. The all time record was 62.35" set way back in 1889. That could be in jeopardy as we got about a month and a half left in the year. The type of pattern we're in could easily give us 7 inches more to break that record all time for yearly rainfall. Just a tremendously wet year. Hopefully we don't see any training of showers and storms. However I'm afraid that could enhance the amounts to 3 inches plus in isolated spots.

Severe weather threat should remain south of the mason dixon line with damaging gusts being the primary threat.

2"+ of rain is possible in your area during the next 48 hours, Jim. And then you would only need 5" or so of rainfall equivalent during the next 6 weeks to break the record for most precip in one year. I think it will happen.

I think the NWS is underestimating the totals a bit...if you look at the radar, the huge band of rain is barely moving...so that would lead me to say at LEAST a widespread 2".

BWI will have to average nearly 0.17" (seventeen-hundredths of an inch) of precipitation per day, in the next 42 days, (to Wednesday, December 31st), will have to occur in order to get the 6.98" of precipitation needed to tie the all time record of 62.35" of precipitation for the year.

Well, my county is under a flash flood watch for 1 to 2 inches of rain today and tonight. I would think there will be some reports of 3+ inches of rain, because there will be imbedded thunderstorms late today and this evening.

Colin - you watch out too! Damaging winds and flooding will be the biggest problems through this evening.
