the first major wildfire of 2004 has started in AZ with a fire burning north of Phoenix. Some experts are saying that this year's wildfire season could be as bad as 2002's-the State's worst.

Doesn't a negative PDO mean dry weather for the Southwest? If this is true, then you may want to get some buckets together.
The PDO, NAO are both looking to be in a weak negative phase for the next 3-6 months.

Late afternoon reports suggest firefighters are gaining on the Webber fire, but it is in tough terrain and winds are expected to be stronger on Wednesday.

the fact that AZ has been in a major Drought since 1996, 3-6 months worth of negative indices aren't going to make any difference at all. In fact, we actually saw some relief this year with northern AZ going from extreme to exceptional drought to merely severe to extreme while down here we have gone from severe to extreme to only moderate to severe-Whoopee!
