Heavy Rains and river flooding in south Louisiana

Flood warning is in effect for the Vermilion River in Lafayette:

FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
230 PM CDT FRI APR 30 2004

FOR THE VERMILION RIVER AT LAFAYETTE, SURREY STREET GAGE, THE LATEST
STAGE WAS 9.9 FEET AT 2 PM FRIDAY. FLOOD STAGE IS 10.0 FEET. THE
RIVER IS FORECAST TO RISE TO ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY MID AFTERNOON AND
CREST AROUND 11 FEET THIS EVENING. AT STAGES OVER 10 FEET...MINOR
FLOODING OF HEYMAN PARK OFF OF HIGHWAY 90 WILL OCCUR.

We've picked up around 3" of rain today on top of the over 4 inches that fell last weekend. Looks like more is on the way too with possible severe weather tomorrow :eek: .

There has been 14 inches in Lafite, and I have been all over Terrebonne and Lafouche. I have to say it has been a soaking, and it could continue tommorrow. They even canceled Jazzfest today.

No flooding in the metro New Orleans area but very wet. And yes, Jazz Fest was cancelled today.

The next round is forming offshore and just now hitting the coast. The forecast was for the showers to diminish towards night fall but that is certainly not the case.
