Currently at this late hour of 2am it's down to 49 degrees in Lafayette according to weatherbug. I can't remember the last time we hit the 40's in may. According to the Lake Charles discussion we could set some records tonight:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LAKE CHARLES LA
955 PM CDT SUN MAY 2 2004

.DISCUSSION...CLEAR SKIES ACROSS THE REGION THIS EVENING WITH TEMPS
DOWN INTO THE MID 50S AT LCH. A WEAK FRONT OVER NE TEXAS IS EXPECTED
TO SWING DOWN INTO OUR REGION BEFORE WASHING-OUT WITH HIGH PRESSURE
EXPECTED TO BRIDGE FROM THE GREAT LAKES REGION DOWN INTO DEEP SOUTH
TEXAS BY MONDAY AFTERNOON.

WOW...TEMPS MAY SET A FEW RECORDS TONIGHT AS THEY WILL BE ON THE
COOL SIDE FOR EARLY MAY...UPPER 40S FOR CENTRAL LOUISIANA AND NEAR
50 ELSEWHERE. THIS IS ABOUT TEN DEGREES COOLER THAN NORMAL 30 YEAR
CLIMATE AVERAGES. RECORDS AROUND THE AREA ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE
WITH LCH RECORDING 45 BACK IN 1929. AEX...49 SET BACK IN 1976...LFT
42 SET BACK IN 1929...AND BPT 50 SET BACK IN 1945. RECORDS STARTED A
BIT LATER FOR AEX ANDS BPT AS THE 1929 COLD SNAP WOULD HAVE PROBABLY
SET RECORDS IN BOTH OF THESE LOCATIONS.

THE REST OF THE WEEK WILL SEE MORNING LOWS AND AFTERNOON HIGHS
SLOWLY CLIMB BACK TO SEASONAL AVERAGES AROUND MID-WEEK. NO RAIN IN
THE FORECAST FOR THIS WEEK.

The Houston office states the fact that this is probably the last cool spell we'll have this spring before summer starts with all the heat and humidity. Highs in the 70's tomorrow/lows in the 40's with sunny skies doesn't happen too often in May so we should definately enjoy it.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
830 PM CDT SUN MAY 2 2004

.DISCUSSION...
A VERY PLEASANT NIGHT ACROSS SE TX WITH CLEAR SKIES AND COOL DRY
CONDITIONS. NOT REALLY MUCH TO TALK ABOUT EXCEPT FOR A WEAK COLD
FRONT CROSSING THE RED RIVER VALLEY THIS EVENING. THIS FRONT MAY
BRUSH CWA ON MONDAY AND HELP REINFORCE THE DRY CONDITIONS. DEWPOINTS
WILL COME UP A LITTLE OVERNIGHT DUE TO THE WET GROUND CONDITIONS.
FOR THE MARINE...WILL LIKELY DROP HEADLINES FOR THE WATERS AT THE
UPDATE. NO FORECAST CHANGES ANTICIPATED FOR ZFP OR OTHER PRODUCTS.
ENJOY THE WEATHER BECAUSE WE WON'T SEE TOO MANY MORE DAYS LIKE THIS!

Yes!!!Sunday was a BEAUTIFUL DAY!!! Currently 50ยบ at the weatherbug nearest me. That at least ties a record for this date if the official out at Intercontinental Airport reaches that or less which is normally does since I am "in the city".

Currently it's 78 degrees with deep blue skies. I wish we could bottle up today and save it for August!

That's right, frost and freeze warnings are out for tonight. The skies are starting to clear, the wind is light, and it is in the mid 40's with low humidity. Yesterday we had mostly boring stratus clouds until near sunset, temperatures around 46 in the afternoon, and some breezy conditions. (otherwise known as summer-like weather with light wind for the Mount Washington, NH people) It was actually snowing for several hours yesterday at Alpena MI, which is not very close to here.

Last night (early this morning) we reached the lower 30s in the city, with mid to upper 20s in outlying areas.

Forecast for the rest of the week: 80s to lower 90s with sporadic chances of storms.

Seems like we're having a real spring here and the NWS New Orleans agrees.

ON FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY...THE MODELS HAVE BEEN SHOWING SOME SORT OF
UPPER LOW/VORT MAX MOVING/DEVELOPING FROM TEXAS INTO THE NORTH GULF.
THE EXACT PLACEMENT OF THESE FEATURES HAS BEEN INCONSISTENT.
REGARDLESS...THERE SHOULD BE NO RAIN...BUT PERHAPS A BRIEF PERIOD OF
MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES SOMETIME LATE FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. THESE
UPPER FEATURES SHOULD DEPART SUNDAY THROUGH NEXT TUESDAY WITH CLEAR
TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND NO RAIN EXPECTED. MANY LOCALS ARE SAYING
WE ARE HAVING AN EXTENDED "REAL SPRING" THIS YEAR. IN OTHER WORDS...
THERE HAS NOT BEEN MUCH HOT AND HUMID WEATHER THUS FAR.
