A Question for Storm Chasers...

This discussion came up at lunch, a few days ago.

How do you, and, DO you, manage to get auto
insurance on a vehicle that you are knowingly going
to use for storm chasing?

My STUPID husband let it slip to our agent that I chase in our truck, and he was a little taken aback. But since I'm not a "serious" chaser, he kinda let it slide. Now, were I to make a claim based on storm damage incurred while chasing, he might not be so lenient. He basically doesn't take me seriously, thinks I'm nuts and keeps quiet. Of course my agent also said, after my husband got a dwi, that the insurance company does random checks and if they didn't check, he wasn't going to come forth with the information. So who knows?

are self insured on their chase vehicles. The rest of us have to keep quiet about storm chasing. Fortunately, storm damage to non chaser vehicles is not that uncommon in states where chasers go.

They don't know ;)

I don't get to chase very often. Maybe a few times a year. Most of the time, the weather comes straight to where I live at.

Thanks for the input, folks - my thoughts in that
conversation was that most folks would
probably relate any insurance damages
as "incidental" to travel...visiting "Aunt Mae"
in OK City, and, such! My nephew is interested
in chasing, as well, but, he's not going to take
that freshly-waxed 2003 Chevy Silverado into
a hailstorm! I guess one should back off from
chasing for a bit if they have repeated occurances
of hail and debris damage on their vehicle? :?:

Welp if ya chase anywhere in the U.S., gots to be ready for some hail damage.

Fortunately, in my case, it has been minimal
