Residents: Tornado Hit Near Johnson County Town

LILLIAN, Texas (KXAS TV) -- Cleanup has begun in Johnson County after severe storms damaged more than 70 homes Thursday night.

Strong winds destroyed three mobile homes near the town of Lillian.

The National Weather Service has not confirmed a tornado touched down, but residents say they saw one when the storms blew through before 8 p.m.

"I was in the bedroom and I said, 'hit the floor' and we hit the floor and that was it. We just went down," Vickie Tapley said, describing how she took cover in her mobile home, which was destroyed just north of Lillian. She ended up under debris but is OK.

"It was a tornado, we saw it in the back door. It was sitting there spinning," she said.

One person suffered minor injuries.

Flash Floods

The storms also brought heavy rainfall to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as some areas reported 3 to 4 inches of rain.

High winds knocked out power in Azle, and flash flooding along Northeast 28th Street in north Fort Worth left some cars stranded.

Flooding also occurred in south Fort Worth where a mother and two children died in storms earlier this month.

The storm later hit Dallas County before moving into east Texas.
