DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
DELAWARE
MOST OF MARYLAND
SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL VIRGINIA
THE EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA PANHANDLE
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS TUESDAY MORNING AND EVENING FROM 1145 AM UNTIL 600
PM EDT.

HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS ALONG AND 120 STATUTE MILES
EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES NORTH OF BALTIMORE MARYLAND
TO 70 MILES SOUTHWEST OF PATUXENT RIVER MARYLAND.

Latest VIS satellite images already showing expansion and increase in CU and TCU over Much of Western/central PA, western MD, and NW VA suggesting convective initiation is already taking place as mid level jet max approaches the region, and forced ascent increases. this is being verified per latest NEXRAD images from the KCCX 88D.





cold 500mb temps and incr. mid level lapse rates should support large hail, and wind damage potential. Also noted Lowering WBZ heights evident on the 12z RUC soundings at PHL, which would further support hail potential.

and will continue to also, which is contributing to SB cape values between 500 and 1000 J/kg (Joules per Kilogram) over much of PA and the Northern half of the watch area. That combined with lowest 6 KM vertical shear of over 50 KT across most of the watch area at 15z should support a severe threat through much of the day.

the threat for severe weather will also increase further northeastward into PA/NJ/NY later on as surface heating contributes to further boundary layer destabilization.

They just added another watch box for Northern NJ, PA and NY.

Update -

We had a small rain shower come through at about 1:45. After it ended, the sun came out and it got steamy. I was outside gardening and I saw the storms build to my north. I could even slightly hear rumbles of thunder in the distance. At about 3:45 it started to storm. We had some heavy winds, no hail but heavy rain and alot of thunder. I've definately seen worse, but they were on top of things today!

I got nailed...winds 50mph or more, the heaviest rain I've seen in a while, and nasty lightning. A tree was struck down the street from me and was knocked down...half the tree is now on the sidewalk.
