Lovely Night in Houston

2.4" rain, massive CG lightning, wind gusts (estimated)around 35 mph, .25" to .75" hail intermittently, lost satellite for over an hour, back yard is a MESS. Looks like more on the way. Cats were WAY freaked out.

Shows you how much I know since I stood outside for about 30 minutes before it started thinking "Nah. Nothing there." SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE RADAR!!!!!

I hope I actually LEARN how to read the clouds in class, otherwise I'm gonna suck as a met.

Yankee Girl,
I haven't tried to get into chat, too busy watching the radar. Just had another round of rain go through. Lightning and thunder has finally let up a bit, but was a great light show for awhile.

Where in West Houston? My mom is off of Memorial and Dairy Ashford and am wondering if she got anything, or was it just us lovely folk in SW Houston.

Looks to be a long night.

We only got .22" here at the house in Spring Branch with gusts to maybe 30 mph and plenty of rumbling. Pasadena had golf ball sized hail from what I understand. Don't know about more on the way since I haven't looked at radar in hours. Been doing family time watching a movie, even eating the popcorn. Obviously the worst of it was to our South again.

56 Lightning-related injuries reported at Southeast Memorial Hospital in Pasadena!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't seen any other details, but with all those chemical plants out there and the guys out working, would wonder if it happened at one of them.

I could not find verification on the 56 lightening injuries. I bet it was a typo.....5 to 6 injuries and they left out "to".

We had some moderate rain and winds up 30MPH with the gust front. The lightening display was quite intense.

Yuppers, I was out in that mess last night on my way to Hobby Airport to pick up returning honeymooners. Nasty torrential, driving rains on 45 and a big lightning show!

Glad to be done with that! Now, on to the beach!

Gotta love the first line of the 3pm discussion... and the rest of it doesn't sound very positive, either!

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HOUSTON/GALVESTON TX
305 PM CDT SAT JUN 5 2004

.DISCUSSION...
WAITING FOR THE STORMS TO EXPLODE. MODIFIED SOUNDINGS INDICATING CAPES NEAR 4000 IN THE SW 1/3RD OF THE AREA. BOUNDARY QUITE APPARENT FROM REMAINS OF MCV REFLECTED IN SURFACE WINDS WITH THE WINDSHIFT FROM NEAR VCT-LBX-EFD-BPT. WILL FAVOR THIS AREA WITH HIGHEST POPS. SEVERE THREAT WITH HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS SEEMS FITTING...HEAVY RAINFALL AS WELL...
GIVEN CAPE...LI-8...SHEAR VERY WEAK AND EXPECT STORMS TO BE INDIVIDUAL CELL OR MULTICELL STRUCTURED. WILL CONTINUE THE 60-70 POPS ALONG THIS CORRIDOR. STORM MOTION NEAR THE BOUNDARY WILL VERY SLOW. SECOND AREA OF CONCERN WILL BE TO THE NORTHWEST INITIALLY THEN EXPANDING EAST AS THE UPPER S/W OVER THE SAT AREA MOVES EAST. SEVERE THREAT SHOULD DECREASE QUICKLY AFTER SUNSET THOUGH THE HEAVY RAINFALL THREAT WILL
CONTINUE.

Stay safe, you guys... last night was quite a show, looks like we're in for another tonight.

Great, more fun. I was unaware of how strong our winds were last night until I went to the store today, numerous small and medium winds ripped off. The canopy at Bank One at Chimney Rock and West Belfort was blown off and landed right side up on the opposite side of the building. All in all, damage was light and very sporadic. The lightning was incredible though.

Everyone stay safe tonight.

Looks like the thunderstorms today over here in Louisiana has kept a lid on the activity in Texas. We've had rain and thunderstorms all afternoon and picked up about 1.5" here at my house. Already over 4" for the month and check out these rainfall statistics for 2004:

Since Jan 1 we've had 38.61" officially but adding today rainfall will take that over 40"

Normal Value for this time of year is 25.95" so we're well over 13" above normal for the year.

And the real kicker, last year at this time only 15.32" of rain had fallen, what a difference a year makes!

PT, I've noticed ya'll are doing some swimming over there. Can't see anything really popping over here.

Plus, our "other" area of concern, i.e., the stuff coming down from Oklahoma or West Texas or whatever seems like less of a threat than before. Fine with me, I could use a quiet night. Should I send my canoe your way?

They cut our pops in half with the last update. It was soooo dark just to the south of me a couple hours ago, and thundering like crazy, but it passed just below me to the East. Toward PT, I think! And I agree with you, Suzi, everything that was heading this way from the NW seems to have just petered out. I have stuff to do on the computer anyway -- I don't need another electrical storm. :)

Hope all of you don't wash away there in LA, PTracker!
