The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of the Mid Atlantic region including the cities of Baltimore, Philadelphia, Dover and Washington DC effective until 8 PM EDT this evening.

The big threat will be gusty winds and there maybe some hail as a line of severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening. Hail 2 inches in diameter, thunderstorm wind gusts to 70 mph and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.

More updates on this situation will be given later this afternoon. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes with little or no advanced warning.

Well one thing that that is sure is that heating won't be a problem today as one of the conserns were reather enought clouds would limet interbitey allowing enought sunshine and certerley enought the heating has not been a problem at least in most of MD.Because we have had sunshine out here since this morning.So all we can do is watch radars and see what happens over the next few hours.

That line,,,IMO,,will die down as it gets to us,,,,due to the fact LFC heights rise drastically and instability decreases to 500j/kg. Plus we still have a stable layer right above the PBL. We might here a rumble of thunder and see some lightning and get some rain,,,but nothing severe.

However these storms did/wil make it over the mtns with the moist upslope flow,,,,just dynamics east of the mtns drop off.

As usuall they have all but falling apart around here. Going to my north and south. What a lousy pattern.

Hey I'm right to your north,,in Cape May. Good thing about being here is you dont have to look at sfc data to figure out if there is a sea breeze. .

There was only one severe cell with the mcs and that only produced marginal severe wx,,hail to 3/4" and damaging wind gust.

The dynamics usually seem to drop off east of the mountains for these storms. You can almost always expect, especially as they come through Philly that they will die down as they cross the river. It doesn't always happen, but it happens often none the less.

I did hear some thunder and we just had alittle rain. The storms went TO MY north and south and dying down as they moved across the Delaware River.

No severe weather here but sure had alot of rain thunder and lighting the past few weeks from Baitmore southword has been geting hit pretty good with these clusters of storms over the past week or so.

Just hope this front speeds up now that are threat is now done...lol. A sfc low is going to develop along the front and as the front stalls its gonna cause some heavy rains,hopefully, over VA and down in the SE were they need it. Right now its to close for comfort here at the shore.

Kewl. Your a ferry away and like me got missed as well. A few drops of rain and that was it for here. Maybe next time.

We had so much rain last week, but I'm still happy that we received some more.

I certainly hope that the SE does get the rain soon!

PS - love that ferry ride! I use it when I do my annual shopping trip to the Rehobeth Outlets. I've also used it for my trips to Ocean City, MD.

Kewl Steph. I am about a stones throw away from the Outlets. That is a very nice ride acros the bay. I need to do that this summer. Havent taken one in quite a few years.

I ought to do that too...

Seriously though, we don't need any more here in this area...we're about an inch and 2/3 above normal for the YEAR...even though we're .39" below for the month...
