It's just one example of the "dumbing down process" in America, which is increasing at an exponential rate

Slowly quickly to the left right followed by an immediate gradual turn to the north south.

Exactly !!
I heard another one some time ago, where a new meteorologist said something like "the hurricane in the Caribbean is moving East towards Mexico" and another I heard "a high pressure trough" at upper levels is causing cold rainy conditions today" and another one back in the 80's on my weather radio saying "the tropical storm depression is moving westward...." and yet another one who was pointing at New Jersey on the map and said "Florida"

You can call me a wet blanket, a party pooper, or whatever. It is your choice, but I do speak my mind as most of you know.
I know most of the above is all in jest folks, but maybe we really ought to think about these things before we post them. I am speaking more in reference to our National agencies as opposed to some of the "mistakes" we see on the tube by OCM's, but I do include that group also.
STORM2K is populated by a variety of people, to say the least. Among those we find Professional mets from both the private and public sector, quite a few "strong" amatuer mets with reputations for really good work and of course the majority of the S2K community, the ones still trying to figure out what weather is all about. Among those that lurk behind the scenes you will find the same mix, probably much more than most would realize.
The point I am bringing forth here is directed at EVERYONE, not one or two individuals. Think before you post, no matter what it is about. There is nothing wrong with pointing out something funny as was done originally in this post, but to carry it further and talk about how people aren't as smart, etc. is belaboring a point, possibly "insulting" to some and something that some of the people STORM2K strives to attract may take a second look at and make a decision not to join here due to the "atmosphere". I bring this up because I know of some who have done just that who are the professionals and types of people we like to have here. That decision not to join or post may not have been made due to postings here, but it just as well could have been if we allowed negativism and "put down" posts to abound. So please think before you post-it is that simple. Now I am down off my soapbox.

As we always say-EVERYTHING is bigger and better in TEXAS!!! That includes our COOLNESS!!!
I'm just trying to get everyone to think before they go a certain direction with some threads. I doubt anyone was offended, but that is something we all need to think about. Yes, the mistakes we find(can't count mine as they are way too numerous)are often funny and there is no problem making light of them. If one can't laugh at themselves and their own foibles then IMO they have a problem. It is when it is taken in a direction that could offend that we need to be careful.

The average high in July was only 74F there.
That is, in the air conditioned library

think about this one... there is the very real possibility that whomever drafted the forecast statement may have included the line intentionally (note the lack of abbreviations versus balance of message). aside from perhaps an intended laugh, it's a good measure to see who is actually reading...
(at least for some of the guys i know... there are mets with humor far more intellectually twisted than anything within the pages of S2K. dunno why pro's should fuss; want to make a difference? go where the action is which would be here. if people want to snob off S2K then that's on them. as far as i can tell, we're a very kind, very diverse, very intelligent bunch of "simple folk".)

The choice by the particular NWS met I was emailed by was due to the continued flaming etc. at another site, not S2K. After years of of it this person chose to cut loose rather than continue to try and cut through the crap. Unfortunately, they continue to not post anywhere due to time constraints among other reasons. You are right Pawlee that with few exceptions S2Koffers a good atmosphere to post in with great discussions. However, knowing this person as I do and knowing how they tried to deal with all the BS elsewhere, I do understand and respect their decision to only lurk.
As you will note he did explain what happened in his email.

I do not like fcstrs who abrv8 xcsvly in thr AFDs. It mks thm 2 hrd 2 rd.
But yes they do have a hard job to do - basically deciding what to tell the public the weather might be like for a certain time period.
