We've been getting hammered here since late this morning and not one warning has been issued. What are the prerequisites for a warning?

Assume you mean a Severe Thunderstorm Warning:

One or all of the following elements:

Hail to 3/4 inch in diameter or greater
Winds of 58 mph or higher

For the record 58 mph (57 mph; more specifically 57.5 mph.... 57.5 mph = 50 knots). :D

Two other hazards that aren't part of the criteria for severe weather/thunderstorms is numerous to excessive cloud-to-ground lightning strikes and flooding rains. It is advised not to venture outside (especially in an open field, around trees and/or carrying anything metal) until 30 minutes after the last audible thunder.

Any frequency of lightning is dangerous.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, stat man, have to get specific. :) So, that is why sometimes I see 58 mph, in excess of 57 mph, or 50 knots. Thanks for the clarification. :)
