Tornado Damage in Manitowoc County

Jul 13, 2004 10:43 pm US/Central
People Are Picking Up The Pieces And Making Repairs After An Apparent Tornado Swept Through A Rural Area Of East Central Wisconsin This Afternoon.

The Storm Partially Demolished Farm Homes, Barns And Other
Buildings Before Passing Over The City Of Manitowoc.

The Family-Owned Clarks Mills Dairy Farm Was Among The Places Hit Hardest In The Community Of Clarks Mills, Which Is About 15 Miles West Of Manitowoc.

Ruth Goehring Says She Didn't See Any Funnel Clouds, But She Saw A Lot Of Damage When She Emerged From Hiding After The Storm Swept Through.

The Home Of Her Son Mike Goehring Had The West End Of The Structure Removed, And The Barn Was Also Damaged.

Another Home Had Part Of The Garage Swept Away And The Contents Strewn Around The Area.

Family Member John Goehring Lives In Nearby Valders ... And He Says Many Neighbors Have Joined The Family In A Massive Cleanup Effort Tonight.

Authorities Say There Weren't Any Injuries From The Storm,
Except For Minor Cuts And Scrapes In The Cleanup.

It's been a bad tornado season everywhere it seems. There have been more twisters reported even in Oregon and Washington State this year!!

Donna, that's about 1/2 hour away to our SE. Wisconsin has been pummeled with tornadoes this season.

Possibly owed to the increase in the activity along the Northern Branch Of The Jet Stream throughout this year?

Yes, that would be a good suggestion. Local Mets are blaming the active early summer thunderstorm pattern on the higher than normal amounts of gulf moisture meeting together with the northern jet.

One would beg the question: Could we end up seeing more severe weather outbreaks this year like we saw in May And/Or more High Risks for severe weather

there is a possibility. One should never rule out more severe weather.
