WELL....July, precip wise, was a HUGE BUST O' RAMA I'm sticking my neck out and UNOFFICALLY declaring the 2004 NONSOON, MONSOON season OVER for all intents and purposes! God Help US!

My normal monsoon total for the month of July SHOULD have been just a hair over 6.20", this past July, only 1.82" feel, compounding the EXCEPTIONAL Drought we're in.

We were above normal here with all of the strong thunderstorms we are having. Normal here is around 4.1 inches, as you can see I was well above normal.

I would call July a dudsoon rather than a nonsoon but the monsoon is not over just yet. In fact, we are getting a monsoon surge down here today-not intense but a surge nonetheless. Also have to remember that although the monsoon usually brings rain, it doesn't necessarily bring a lot of rain-there are many factors involved in how effective a monsoon is which is why even the Asian monsoon, which is much more intense, is so unpredictable. For July we got 1.62in of rain which is 2.20 below normal. In character, July was much like July 2002 only a bit drier than the earlier July-since 2002 was our driest monsoon on record at my house, I am not optimistic about the remainder of this year's monsoon either. Interestingly, I went against the tide of those who called for a wet monsoon but didn't go enough against it it seems.

YUP Steve, I saw that push in which your refering to, NWS FLAG is calling for that push to reach us "DREAM ON NWS" it "AIN'T" gonna happen....we have a BRISK west breeze blowing, pushing our moisture into NM...AND to top it off....it FEELS like AUTUMN here....

BY THE WEEKEND THE 500 MB RIDGE TAKES A POSITION ALONG THE AZ/NEW
MEXICO BORDER WITH A MID-LEVEL SUBSIDENCE INVERSION FORMING OVER THE
AREA. WE TAKE THE PRECIP CHC'S DOWN TO A LOW GRADE MONSOON BY THEN
AS THIS PATTERN IS NOT AS FAVORABLE FOR THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT.

For the record, I was WRONG and I'll be the first to admit it....it's only been 12 days, that's counting today, without a drop of rain. I've done some research and this is, according to all the records I could find, the DRIEST monsoon, dudsoon, nonsoon season this mountain has experienced since records have been kept and the outlook for any precip within the next 8 days is NON existent I try NOT to complain, to think about it but when you walk thru the woods, smell the pine sap and watch the sap bleeding from the Ponderosa Pines, it's VERY depressing to say the very least! I know there's nuthin' I can do about it..but DAM, this is TERRIBLE
