As all the attention has been drawn lately to hurricanes and tropical storms, and record cold in many states...
I finally found SUMMER....in Alaska

Wow, they are higher then my high temps were during those days!!!

two reasons for that.

1. Warm water surrounds the west coast of NA. Same thing was seen last year in the Mediterranean prior to the European heat wave.

2. Positive PNA pattern (just the summer version of it) Note the Ridge in western North America and unseasonably strong/cold PV near Hudson bay.
