Good afternoon. Severe weather is approaching st louis now and that should remain the case for the next few hours. A tornado watch is in effect for the St Louis area. Primary threat will be damaging winds. But tornadoes and large hail is possible as well. South central Illinois and Indiana are in this threat as well. There is also potential hailstorms for chicago, the quad cities, and northern Illinois as well this afternoon as the upper lows core moves northeast over central Iowa this afternoon and evening.
By tomorrow, another upper storm moving in from California and Nevada will fire up huge supercell thunderstorms over the southern Plains including in Dallas Fort Worth, Plano, TX and Ardmore, Oklahoma. Very large hail to softball size and wind gusts to 80 mph with tornadoes are not impossible tomorrow with this type of setup across the southern Plains.
There will also be an axis of somewhat warmer and juicer air over the mid atlantic. So keep an eye out in DC and Baltimore for an isolated strong wind gust or two possible later tomorrow.
More updates as warranted. Keep an eye out st louis for severe right now.
