AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN DIEGO CA 837 PM PDT SAT OCT 30 2004
.SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BRING FAIR WEATHER SUNDAY WITH A CONTINUED WARMING TREND. MODERATE TO STRONG SANTA ANA WINDS WILL DEVELOP SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY...WEAKENING TUESDAY. FAIR WEATHER WITH WEAKER WINDS AND LITTLE OR NO MARINE LAYER IS EXPECTED DURING THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK BEFORE COOLER WEATHER RETURNS LATE IN THE WEEK WITH GUSTY WINDS AGAIN THROUGH PASSES AND CANYONS.
...
ONLY OTHER ISSUE TO TACKLE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR HIGH WINDS DEVELOPING LATER ON SUNDAY AS HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS INTO THE GREAT BASIN. LOOKS LIKE THERE WILL BE ENOUGH SUPPORT FOR STRONG SANTA ANA WINDS TO DEVELOP THROUGH AND BELOW THE CAJON PASS...AND THROUGH THE CANYONS IN THE SANTA ANA AND SAN DIEGO MTNS. CURRENT TIME FRAME WILL NEED TO BE MOVED UP AND AN UPDATE WILL BE ISSUED TO ADJUST THE TIME. OTHERWISE...NO OTHER UPDATES PLANNED TO THE FORECAST.
This being from the latest AFD from my NWS office in San Diego this evening (Saturday evening now I suppose

). Looking like a windy night late tonight and into Monday afternoon before tapering off for a few days, then coming back again at the end of the week.

We are supposed to get gusts over 50 MPH here later on today (seeing as how it is now Monday here officially). We shall see what happens. No real wind to speak of as of yet though.

Got gusts nearing 70 at least here. Really whipping out there!

Funny that I post that and it got windy right after.

Nothing too bad yet (at least not the 70 mph that Tornado Chaser says he had), but I would say we have had 30-40 MPH gusts here so far at least.

The winds have been blowing so hard today, non stop, gusts to 70 still! and models are showing still gonna be STRONGER tomorrow morning before sunrise!!! Reason why they are stronger here than other places in southern california, is because I live right south of the Cajon Pass about 10 miles. So it's VERY clese.

Nice lovely dome of cold dry air over the Basin right now-will do the Santa Ana bit in SoCA every time. In the meantime the deserts are on the cold side and we are expecting our first freeze of the season here.

It seemed to get windier as the day wore on here in coastal Orange County ... I would say we had a few gusts nearing 40-50 MPH at times. Defionitely nothing like what was experienced inland though but it sure was a breezy day here. Breezy being a relative term of course.

Winds may be coming to an end

It looks like our Santa Ana event will be coming to an end by Wednesday or Thursday....all of the mets are talking about a cut-off low event for the last part of this week & into the weekend...I'm hoping for precip here in LA, but I think itll just be cool & cloudy.

I think the LA National Weather Service has added a slight chance of precip for the later part of this week, but I could be wrong on that.

Also there could be another system for late this weekend and early next week it looks like by glancing at the computer models.
