Prolonged wet spell ending

The prolonged wet spell here in the West is taking a break. It went out with a bang tonight as some heavy thunderstorms blew up just west of Phoenix at sunset and lit up the sky with vivid lightning. Feisty winds and pelting rains lasted only a few minutes, but reminded us of the powerful nature of these persistent systems here.

While California had much heavier rain than I did, I nevertheless measured 4.17" in the last 40 days.

Snow measured in feet. Rains that last for days. Maybe not droughtbusters in the long term sense, but surely significant in ways we haven't seen for a while.
