OMG...

Last time we had a high risk there was a bad result(November 10, 2002)... several major tornadoes, and quite a few deaths and they occurred in the evening hours.

AN EARLY SPRING STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP RAPIDLY TONIGHT
INTO EARLY SATURDAY IN THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...SHIFTING ACROSS THE
MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY DURING THE DAY SUNDAY. ALONG AND AHEAD OF
THIS SYSTEM...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP SATURDAY
AFTERNOON. A WARM FRONT WILL LIFT NORTHWARD INTO THE TENNESSEE
RIVER VALLEY BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON...PLACING MOIST OF ALABAMA IN
THE UNSTABLE WARM SECTOR OF THE STORM SYSTEM FOR MOST OF THE DAY
SATURDAY...SATURDAY NIGHT...AND SUNDAY.

THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER CURRENTLY HAS A MODERATE RISK FOR
SEVERE WEATHER ACROSS MOST OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN ALABAMA FOR
SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT...THEN A SLIGHT RISK ON SUNDAY. AN
UPGRADE TO A MODERATE RISK IS EXPECTED FOR SUNDAY...AND SOME
PORTION OF THE DEEP SOUTH COULD BE UPGRADED TO A HIGH RISK FOR
SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT.

DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND TORNADOES WILL ALL BE
POSSIBLE IN ASSOCIATION WITH THESE STORMS. AT THIS TIME...THE
GREATEST THREAT FOR TORNADOES LOOKS TO BE LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO
EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO PLAN TO MOVE ANY
OUTDOOR SUNDAY MORNING PLANS INTO A SAFE STURDY STRUCTURE. HEAVY
RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THESE STORMS COULD ALSO PRODUCE SOME LOCALIZED
FLOODING...ALTHOUGH NO WIDESPREAD FLOODING PROBLEMS ARE
ANTICIPATED.

Guess I'll be battening down the hatches in anticipation. So much for doing a whole bunch of gardening tomorrow.

I remember November 10, 2002. Most of the action was way north of me but it was a big outbreak and really nasty.

I presume your down in Central and South Alabama... I was living in Anniston(60 miles east of Birmingham at the time). We got pretty lucky, we had a much weaker tornado signature come over us about 1am that night... and that was it, fortunately. I'm now living closer to Auburn.

We generally come out a lot better off during these March and April systems than Central and especially North Alabama. We get a few 'spouts (I've seen 2 in the last 2 years and have a picture of one) and weak tornadoes, but it seems the really bad stuff breaks out around Birmingham and Huntsville.

Be careful those who are in Alabama.

I'm just slightly north of Montgomery. I just checked in at the NWS site and I see we've got a tornado watch until 9 pm. There's been a cell working it's way NE from down around Enterprise for the last hour or so and it looks like a nasty customer.
