hail the size of baseballs

What a day I had yesterday!
My neice got married yesterday afternoon at 3:30 pm. My wife, daughter, son, mother, and I were on our way home from the wedding and reception at around 5 pm. After driving about 20 miles from the wedding and reception, we turned off the main street in my small town and traveled about 2 miles up my road when suddenly, hail the size of quarters began to fall. Within seconds, the size of the hail increased to golfball size. My first instinct was to seek shelter for the car to prevent the windshield from being broken out. I drove thru a guy's yard and parked the front of the car under his tractor shed. By that time the hail was as big as a baseball!! It was amazing! The sound of it falling was something I'll never forget. Unfortunately, there was only enough room under the shed for the front of my car, including the front windshield. The top and trunk of the car was exposed to the hail. Fortunately, the back windshield was not damaged, but there were some dings made in the car.
As luck would have it, when the hail stopped, we got stuck in the guy's yard! As we were sitting there trying to decide how to get out of his yard, large hail began to fall again! We were out in the open with no protection. The noise was horrific! I was expecting the windshield to be broken out any second. With lots of praying, the windshield was spared and the hailing stopped. My daughter and I had to push the car out of the mud. Needless to say, we got soaked and ruined our clothes we'd worn to the wedding. Oh, well. At least my car was ok LOL. (LONG STORY ON THAT ONE! See the off topic for that story)
After getting out of the mud, we made the remaining 2 mile drive down the road to my house. THe ground was still covered in hail. What a DAY!
