March 31, 2005 — A spike in the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere between 2001 and 2003 appears to be a temporary phenomenon and apparently does not indicate a quickening build-up of the gas in the atmosphere, according to an analysis by NOAA climate experts. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is released into the atmosphere by the burning of wood, coal, oil and gas. Increases in the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere are of special interest to scientists because carbon dioxide is a significant heat-trapping greenhouse gas.

Oh please, you go by a few months of steady CO2 levels after several decades of rapidly increasing CO2 levels as good news??

I have heard that warmer global temperatures can actually add to CO2 levels in the atmosphere. This is due to the fact that water can hold more CO2 when it's colder. This leads me to believe that the spike in CO2 may have been nothing more than NATURAL CYCLE global warming, releasing some extra CO2 into the atmosphere. If so, a leveling off or drop in CO2 levels could mean we're getting colder now!

i realize good news to some would a disaster scenario. yes, its good news, and noaa climate experts seem to agree

There could be several reasons for the leveling of CO2 in the atmosphere. I would imagine that CO2 levels will once again resume a steady rate of increase. Still not worried about human induced global warming though......MGC
