Mini Monsoon

What a NICE suprise.....a MINI Monsoon is underway, not really, a low pressure system to our south is pumping up tropical moisture and WOW..what a BOOMER we had yesterday :eek: Even more in the forecast for this weekend, of course, it's MEMORIAL DAY "lol!"

FXUS65 KFGZ 280951 AFDFGZ AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF 250 AM MST SAT MAY 28 2005 .SYNOPSIS...MOISTURE WILL INCREASE OVER THE STATE TODAY AND SUNDAY WITH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER MUCH OF THE AREA. SOME STORMS MAY PRODUCE HEAVY RAIN BY THIS AFTERNOON...MAINLY ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE MOGOLLON RIM. CONDITIONS WILL BEGIN TO DRY BY MONDAY AND TUESDAY...WITH GUSTY SOUTHWEST WINDS AT TIMES. EXPECT NORMAL TEMPERATURES FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

The weather is similar to what we might see during the monsoon but the pattern is most assuredly not monsoonal as we have westerly flow in Mexico south of the LPA whereas during the monsoon we have E-SE flow. Actually, having a wet May like this is a fairly typical post NiƱo situation and makes the late monsoonal start more likely since we have to get the subtropical westerlies well to the north of where they are in order to start the 'soon.
