It's a brisk 92 at 5:30 this morning here in north Phoenix. Apparently the low dipped to 87 just after midnight, but before the sun could ever come up we were back at 92.

No brisk walk out there this morning. A swim is more in order.

Today should be our third consecutive 110+ day...not at all unusual for late June, but a reminder to many of us of just how oppressive the heat can be.

After sunset last night, a few remnant showers slipped out of the mountains to the east with dust and winds...and perhaps a drop of rain somewhere in between it all.

I suspect we'll be at 100 this morning by 8:30 or so.

Anyone want to meet me for a cup-a-Joe at a sidewalk cafe about midday? If you do, you'll be by yourself. I will be inside in the A/C as much as I can today.

At least until that evening swim.

Now I remember why I wasn't so upset when my move to Phoenix fell through!!!!

No matter how dry that heat is, anything over 110 is just totally oppressive.

I notice last night it was still 106 at 10pm my time (CST). I remember being in Tempe AZ one summer and the high was 117, I thought my skin was going to freaking melt off when I went outside.

111 with a SW breeze here at 12:50. 115 is not out of the question, although there are some popcorn storms dotting the region.

The last two weeks of June are often the hottest...as humidities creep up and the monsoon season toys with the valley starting in July, temperatures tend to drop a little for daytime highs, while overnight lows are frequently well into the 80's.

That late June heat burst is a typical and in part a necessary lead in for the monsoon. We didn't get it last year and look at the pitiful monsoon we had.

My plan was to try and drive through the Phoenix area at night when I was living in California. One time we stopped just west of Phoenix on I-10 and got some gas. It was still 105 at midnight. Thanks, but I'll take the humidity here in Mississippi.......MGC

Indeed, low temperatures in the 90's are not pleasant.

I used to think that when the sun went down here you could roll down those windows and cruise around town.

Nope...windows stay up, and a/c stays on.

But at least at night you don't have to use oven mitts to drive with and don't have to worry about getting branded by the seat belt buckle.

Steve my friend... thats just crazy! I dont think I have ever experienced such high temperatures in my life... dont think I want to either . I hate it when it gets towards 90 with the sticky icky humdity. Stay in the cool my friend, if I could I would head on over with a sno-cone for ya

Bronnie... GREAT to hear from you! You don't exactly live in a place where summer is the favorite month either!

Had a low of 88 this morning and there was some thunder at times (no rain here though) overnight.

The millions of people who move down here often say they don't mind the heat...I guess so they can justify why they are here, but truth is...none of us find these to be our favorite months.

The overnight temperatures hovered in the upper 80's most locations here, and a fire-enhanced thunderstorm brought little relief to the area overnight.

At daybreak, heavy smoke engulfed most of Scottsdale into central Phoenix as winds let up and were downslope out of the fire areas to our northeast.

Not a particularly good day ahead with two fires merging in Phoenix' north suburbs. Winds expected to pick up later this morning will help the smoke issue but create more fire concerns.
