That's how you can tell when it's really dry, as if you couldn't tell by looking at the cracked ground.

Come on...let it rain, let it rain, let it rain! (even though there's no relief in sight)

Maybe just maybe if "Bret" would intensify more it would help erode some of the ridge and bring some of that gulf moisture into our area. Proabably just wishful thinking, there is no relief in sight and looks like we'll be flirting with 100 degree temps by Thursday/Friday. I hate this :grr: .

Oh we totally sympathize with you up here! *big snuggles* and we've been having a lot of mid 90's days with heat indexes close to or at 100. Not that bad to southerners who are use to this type of weather by now... but that is warm for us up here in June... this is late August weather! I sure hope you guys get good long rains soon too!

Harris county has had that burn ban for a couple of weeks now... I think they just added Brazoria county to the list last night.

DROUGHT GETTING WORSE!

With Tropical storm Bret in the southern Gulf our rain chances look isolated at best along the seabreeze the next couple of days. Upper high continues to squash any decent rain chances for our area. Some of the data over doing the tropical moisture over the Gulf reaching us. Surface winds look to become more south to southwest Thursday and Friday with Friday's highs in the upper 90's. By the weekend the upper high looks to back out some (maybe) so we may see a few more showers then. Some of the data actually shows a upper level disturbance moving in from the north late Friday but I'm not to jump on this just yet. Intersting note besides the system in the southern Gulf, a weak surface circulation was noted on visiable satellite about 200 miles to our southeast. Doubt anything will come of this but interesting seeing it.

It's gonna make for an interestingly non-sparkly Fourth of July celebration.

Your local fire departments will be busy this holiday weekend for sure. You know there's going to be people who refuse to pay attention and abide by the burn ban.

Well Travis County just went under a burn ban as well as some of the surrounding counties.

IF it ever starts raining I might not know what to do with myself. Probably will run and start screaming that the sky is falling. :P

I'm betting water restrictions won't be far behind if it keeps up this way. Here in DFW we get some relief this weekend as the temps fall to a chilly 97-98 for highs with a 10% chance of rain. Hey, at least it's a chance.

Here in Lafayette we've been under watering restrictions for the past several years. It's second nature to us now.

We're mowing our lawn on the 4th as well as watering that evening. Although we're in the city limits where fireworks are banned, lots of people set them off near us every year. Last year we went out and the next day we found bottle rocket remains in our side yard and our back yard. I may need to call someone about the lot next door - weeds are hip high!

If we stay home I may call in about people setting off fireworks.

West Austin is in worse shape than the east side of town tho - the canyons and hillsides are a tinderbox of dry cedar and live oak, along with grass and mesquite.... the FD keeps saying they could have a huge fire out there, but nothing seems to have been done about keeping brush away from the new homes up there...

Thankfully, our fireworks are out over the Gulf. :)

Yep we have been but I think they're in place as more of a precautionary measure. For example last year at this time we had received 32" MORE inches of rain which is about 20" above normal but we still had watering restrictions  . I've pretty much given up on rain around here though, once you accept that every day is hazy, hot, and humid you start to get over it. Too bad it's still June and we feel like this, it's been more like late August weather for the past 4 weeks. :grrr:

I would be booking a flight out of Houston by now. But that is just me!!

We have complained a great deal about the weather this month in Seattle... but I guess our highs in the upper 60's to mid-70's have not been not too bad in comparison.

And the occasional showers have kept the landscape pretty green.

You should come up for a weekend and cool off. :D

I wish I could afford to. I haven't been to Seattle since 1967 and I loved it there.

Why would you complain about highs in the upper 60's to mid-70's and rain occasionally? Just curious...Image

Even though we had a very sunny winter... people in Seattle seem to demand constant sun in the summer.

It has been a little cool lately... upper 70's would be better. Today was really nice... morning clouds and then afternoon sun and a high of 75 degrees at my house. Some puffy cumulus clouds hanging on the mountains this afternoon... dewpoints in the 50's.

Perfect in my book.

It's like that here too - no rain and above average temps for 29 days. They say we haven't hit 100, but the airport is in a cool spot - our outdoor thermometer (in the shade on the N side of the house) hit 103 yesterday. It's been over 100 at least 4 times.

We've had a little over half an inch of rain at the airport tho this month.
