It appears the 2005 Monsoon season will go down as the Year of the NonSoon.......already nearing a record nonstart to the season for the White Mountains (July 15th is the latest start) and NOTHING on the horizon but RECORD HEAT!!

.DISCUSSION...A STRONG HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM...BECOMING CENTERED OVER CENTRAL UT...IS PROGGED TO BUILD OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST DURING THE WEEK. 5H HGTS REACH 599 DAM ON TUESDAY AND HGTS REMAIN HIGH THRU THE WEEK. THE AIR MASS WARMS UNDER THIS INTENSE RIDGE WITH H7 TEMPS NEAR 20C SEEN DURING THE WEEK. THIS PATTERN IS SIMILAR TO ANOTHER RECORD BREAKING TEMPERATURE EPISODE.


We had a WET winter, guess that was the moisture for the year.......ah well, "Bring on the Wildfires!" With no rain in sight and record temps down on the desert floors, it'll just send all the nimrods up HERE to start fires!

The record breaking episodes referred to are late June 1994 and mid July 1995. The actual official latest start to the monsoon is July 25, 1987. There's never been a year without a monsoon but there have been years with extremely pitiful monsoons.

Last year was pretty sad. Only 1.75" measured in my backyard between May 1 and September 30th.

Deserts are about big mood swings. Extremes of one kind shift to extremes of another...and those are what give us our averages.

The best thing I could probably do to bring monsoons to my part of Phoenix is to wash the two cars on the same day.

Or maybe plan an outdoor event.

Right now a cloud would be nice.

WELL....as they say, "There's a FIRST time for EVERYTHING!" and this appears to be the year without the monsoon. No evidence of a start date yet, just temps above normal, WAY above normal, in the 39 years I've lived on this mountain, I've NEVER seen a summer quite this hot! St. Johns, 39 miles to my east has broken records for 5 consecutive days now, records from 83 yrs. ago are falling by the way side. I've hit 98° here at the house 3 days in a row, which is UNHEARD of.
