Central and Eastern Harris County, basically from downtown East is experiencing major flooding due to training/stalled thunderstorms with rainafall rates sometimes approaching 4" per hour. Some of I-10 and I-45 are now impassable.
This is the last email I recieved from Jeff about it.
Major flooding ongoing over downtown Houston and central Harris County.
Several major freeways are impassable along with almost all secondary and surface streets. Water is getting very close to going into homes and businesses because the rainfall rate is so intense the underground drainage system is not able to handle the loads. Streets are currently being used as the primary drainage system.
Stay where you are, do not try to travel across any parts of central and eastern Harris County.
At this time all the bayous are handling the water, but we are getting tremendous inflow into Buffalo, Hunting, and White Oak bayous.
