Cloud question

As some of you know, I love taking photo's of clouds. I took these two images. The upper one was taken in April, and the other one I took today. I noticed the finger like projection in both of these. Does anyone know if they have a special name, or how they form?

Hmm, I don't know of any name for that type of cloud but that's very interesting to have two different storms have the same looking cloud.

Wow, Bron - those are cool! Almost makes 'ya want to
head for cover until you see the lack of rotation around
the particular cloud formation, eh?

Without a bigger view it looks like there is no rotation so they appear to be "scud" clouds. Scuds are pieces of wind blown clouds that usually appear to be floating under a thunderstorm. Scuds do not rotate and usually move away from rain (downdraft).

Here are some scuds that somewhat reseamble what you shot. I took this 2 years ago in my backyard:

Scuds and debris clouds do not produce or even signify SVR wx...but they're cool to look at

Thanks for the information Scott!!

There was no rotation with either of these storms. I just found those scud clouds very fascinating.

BTW GREAT picture you took :)

LOL Breeze, my husband fights with me, because I dash outside in the middle of an approaching storm and stand there until I get my pic's.. ;)
