Tornado watch until 9pm

It has been looking ominous all day, but just in the last 30 minutes, things have begun to darken, and storms are begining to form off to our southwest.

Here is an update... a Mesoscale Discussion from the SPC...

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1458
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0529 PM CDT SUN JUN 22 2003

AREAS AFFECTED...ERN NEB...SERN SD...WRN IA

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 562...

VALID 222229Z - 222330Z

EARLIER CLUSTERS OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOPED OVER THE LOWER MO
VALLEY HAVE FORCED MODIFIED AIRMASS WWD INTO CENTRAL PORTIONS OF WW.
RECENT SATELLITE IMAGERY SUGGESTS THIS MAY BE ENHANCING CONVERGENCE
ALONG AN AXIS OF STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES FROM NEAR CNK...NWD TO
WEST OF OFK...WHERE DEEP CONVECTIVE TOWERS ARE CURRENTLY PULSING.
LARGE SCALE PATTERN FAVORS THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THIS
REGION AS LLJ SHOULD INCREASE MARKEDLY THIS EVENING. SUPERCELLS AND
TORNADOES REMAIN POSSIBLE...ESPECIALLY LATER THIS EVENING. ONCE
DEVELOPED...ACTIVITY MAY TAKE A FEW HOURS BEFORE MOVING INTO WRN
PORTIONS OF IA.

There is one Cell SW of you. It was severe earlier. Is it moving toward Lincoln still?

Posted: Sun Jun 22, 2003 6:44 pm
by weatherwunder
Yes, it is still moving this way. That is the one I am keeping my eye on right now. Seems to still be strong. From my desktop doppler set up, it appears to have some rotation within it.

There is also a cell to our west, about 85 miles out, that is moving towards us too.
