Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 12:04 PM EST on November 16, 2005
... Risk of severe thundertsorms late this afternoon and early this evening...
A warm and slightly unstable airmass covers a large part of central
North Carolina. Meanwhile a strong cold front was approaching
slowly from the west. A band of showers with a few thunderstorms
is expected to occur along and behind the front. The winds just
above the surface are rather strong. Thus... a few of the storms
will have the potential to produce wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Currently... it appears that the risk for severe storms will be
greatest across sections of the Piedmont... sandhills and coastal
plain between 4 PM and 8 PM.
Spotter activation may be needed late this afternoon and early
this evening.
The severe weather will diminish greatly with the passage of the
cold front. The frontal passage at your location will be noted when
the winds shift from a southerly direction to a west northwest
directions. Wind gusts up to 30 mph will occur ahead and
immediately behind the front.
