I think this deserved it's own post just because of the amazing video...
http://kfvs12.com/ has added several new videos. There is footage from the CCTV system at Caruthersville High School which is amazing, and a woman filmed the tornado for 9minutes as it approached their house. I don't think I've ever seen someone in such denial over whats about to happen.... They were very lucky to escape
'That's not a tornado... it's too big to be a tornado'

And that my friends is why some species eat their young.

What could have been an absolute classic was turned into an annoying mess. Maybe the yankees are right about us afterall.

What would've made it better, would've been if she got hit with a hail stone and fell over =/

If I were put in that situation I would continue shooting as well.

Well, I didn't mean that so much as being in complete denial about what she was seeing.

I have to agree. She was too busy collecting hail for her husband to put into the freezer.

first...
why do they keep sounding the sirens? its way over there...it looks like its breaking up...its to big to be a tornado... why are people so...retarded? I know i know alot about weather...but come on...what happened to common sense? i mean...i can see the whole breaking up thing...but...what really caught me off guard was the "Why do they keep sounding the sirens" "Because mom, its a tornado" "But its way over there"

as for the high school inside of it...after seeing that, i think i will never go out into one of the hallways for a tornado...EVER!!! did you see the ceiling? it like collapsed where kids would of been, and probably killed them...

I probably would have filmed it, but once it started getting close I would surely be getting into cover...not collecting hail for the freezer. lol.

Are these people for real?
Reminds me of the time I saw a waterspout on Lake Ponchatrain as I was on the Interstate. It touched down and then it just broke apart. It was amazing

The 17 year old kid who took the video the last frame is from was interviewed on Fox News. Nothing can compare to the video some years ago from TX where the guy after nearly getting zapped by lightning is outside videotaping a F4 destroying his neighbors house before he is knocked unconcious by flying debris.

I kept saying "go inside! GO INSIDE!!"
That last frame showed another funnel cloud forming. The were darn lucky that it made a left turn when it did. Still, that was too close for comfort!

Experiencing two f2 tornadoes with winds of about 130-140 MPH about 13 and 15 years ago is bad and scary enough for me. That tornado! Yikes! Looks like it is a f3 or f4 tornado! I am thankful not to see one that strong with my own eyes. Frankly, I wouldn't know what to do. I do know I wouldn't be out when I see one like that outside. Anyone have some info about the tornado's path and wind speed of it?

The news stations in Memphis aired the high school video about 100x.
Speaking of the Caruthersville tornado, local media has APPALLING coverage on April 2. Not a single news station broke through when a massive F3 tornado was destroying Marmaduke, AR.. and even during the warning for Dunklin county. As the tornado was hitting Caruthersville they broke through, but only because a tornado warning was issued for Cross County, much closer to Memphis. As people were dying in Dyer and Gibson counties, they aired nonstop coverage from cameras on I-40 as a tornadic supercell moved through Crittenden county, but hardly mentioned anything about what was occurring in NW TN.
I applaud our CBS-affiliate (WREG CHANNEL 3) for doing outstanding work, but the other stations sucked.

I already replied to you in another thread, but I'm going to post again here. Here, I disagree strongly with what you say...
Again as said in my other thread I have most everything on tape so I have a pretty good idea of what transpired...
WMC came on the air very shortly after hearing of Marmaduke, and never went off until nearly Midnight that night. I believe Dunklin County just had gone under the tornado warning. NO OTHER STATION (in Memphis) has a responsibility to Greene County AR as they are not a part of their viewing area, to expect coverage from them on Marmaduke as the tornado was occurring is absurd. I'm one of those people who hate the people calling and complaining of coverage when its highly needed, but even I would be upset if a news station was covering a storm not only outside the DMA, but outside the entire viewing area!
WREG went on the air I think with the Pemiscot Warning, and Cross was shortly therafter, when the other stations followed. As said in the other thread, when the tornadic cell was in Memphis, it got a majority of coverage though the northern cell was still not ignored, and this is to be expected. You have to keep in mind viewers who are watching, the vast majority will be from the Memphis metro area. See my other post about video. I would have loved it if they had video from the northern cell, but if they don't have it from there they will go to where there is video. Its not the greatest of ideas, but thats how TV works. Its all about the visual...
Gibson County is not in the Memphis DMA, so coverage should naturally be lighter. Still, most stations stayed on the air with that cell and focused solely on it since the Memphis Metro cell was long dissipated.
I have tapes here that show the happenings, so I have a pretty good idea of how things went down. The April 2 coverage excellent IMO.

You made some good points. I still think it lacked the punch needed. Coverage of past outbreaks such as the two January 1999 outbreaks and May 2003 were much better, BUT they were also expected. April 2 wasn't forecast to be so bad.
What is DMA? I know the local news stations don't cover all the counties NWS Memphis issues ..
On your other thread you mentioned the northern counties were also covered by other new stations in Jonesboro and Paducah. That makes me feel a LOT better. I never realised that there were OTHER stations.
