We haven't had a bad storm in a while (aside from the cane's lol)

This was a fun day... 'Jlauderdale' who works near me and I were conversing durring it, and tracking the storm cells on our different radar tracking programs.

Fun to get some action. I love how all my neighbors were swearing we had 70mph winds. lol

BTW there was some really violent Long lasting bolts of lighting like I haven't seen in years.

Oh and by the time I found the hail on the front porch, it had been sitting there about 5+ minutes. I'm just guestimating that it was about 1/4" to 1/2". I was standing around... and then realized... WHY ARE MY FEET COLD??? lol

Cool video. Your lightning and thunder seem different from Ontario Canada's thunder storms. I don't know, maybe I'm just hearing it different on video or something like that.

Those winds looked stronger than just a 43mph gust, but I agree that they were much weaker than 70mph. I would estimate that they were likely near 30-40mph sustained and gusting to near 50mph. Either way though, nice video. It is funny that your neighbors thought you had 70mph winds...you would think that they would have learned after Katrina and Wilma.

That lighting was much stronger than normal, Really crisp... but the bolt would sit in the sky for 3-4 seconds... continuing to make the crackling noises. Also instead of the bolt branching off, they were mostly all just Huge/Wide single bolts.


I agree that their probably were gusts over 50mph. But sadly this cell didn't pass over an official anemometer to coroborate my readings with. In Wilma my Davis Vantage Pro was measuring sustained winds about 10mph too low, however, more importantly it missed many BIG gusts. It just doesn't perform to where I need it. It will be upgraded eventually.


Friends and Family down here still believe they got 130mph + winds durring Wilma. Even when I brought them evidence pointing otherwise. Its a neverending battle... that i'm not going to win. lol

I can remember my mothers face drop when she would ask what windspeed the last gust that racked the house was (wilma), and I would respond.. 93mph. She turned white. That was the gust that began the destruction of the Pool Enclosure that is still missing.

Around 7pm in Tavernier, saw a big thunderstorm complex with a giant mushroom head off to the north. The distance makes giant cells seem right out in front of you, with the bottom sitting on or below the horizon on the bayside.

Very cool! The older I get, the more I love these storms and being outi in them.........which probably isn't so smart!

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are people in Houston that think the WEAK tropical storm conditions we got during Rita were Cat. 1/2 force winds.

I was watching that storm about 4 miles east of your location. The inflow was impressive and even a psuedo wall cloud was sort of forming near the RFD. Thanks for sharing the video, it was cool to see what went on in that storm, since we did not really get much action east of 27th and the palmetto.

There was also a pretty bad storm in Miami 3 days ago. The sky was the darkest I have ever seen.

we had a good chasing day yesterday without hacing to chase, lol. it was interesting to see the cell develop over us and then split with a piece of energy heading ne in the flow and then a piece building to the SE which quickly became really intense and thus the hail and then a tornado warning issued to our SE. 3rd hail event this season in miami lakes. miami lakes is a great loacation for storms, on the edge of the everglades and also far enough inland for the seabreeze to converge inland and thus the big storms, plus its low in miami lakes as you can see by the street flooding in Eric's video.

Eric is using GRLevel3 and I am using StormLab Pro so we have the basis covered when watching these cells develop. Both programs were picking up thehail and rotation before we actually observed the hail and the warning tornado warning was issued.

It's amazing how isolated these storm cells are. We didn't get a drop in Homestead and played tennis from 4-9pm at Keys Gate (southside of Homestead) with no weather issues at all. We could hear the thunder to our North but that's about it. There was continuous rain over the weekend so we are nice and green down here again.
